It has completely stabilized over many years and is generally of much higher quality and density compared to new wood harvested from fast growing plantation forestry. Compared side by side you can tell the difference immediately - the quality of our wood is just so much better.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY - Our heavy duty end grain butcher blocks are made from 100% reclaimed tropical hardwoods. The wood is salvaged from demolished buildings and most of it is 50 - 150 years old and not commercially available. EACH BOARD IS UNIQUE - Each block has a completely random pattern and the appearance, dimensions and weight will vary slightly. Species used include famous hardwoods such as Chengal, Giam, Balau, Rengas, Keruntum, Keranji, Meranti, Mengulang, Kempas and others. Reclaimed wood has some marks and imperfections that have been carefully repaired without affecting function. END GRAIN IS BETTER - End grain is more durable and lasts much longer than parallel grain boards. Knives cut into the grain, similar to cutting into a brush rather than cutting across the grains and severing it. This preserves not only your board but keeps your knives sharper for longer as well. ONLY THE BEST MATERIALS ARE USED - We exclusively use the best US Made FDA Food Safe approved waterproof adhesive for manufacturing. Each board is finished with Tree & Co Wood Food, a 100% natural beeswax blend that polymerizes into the cracks, cut marks and imperfections of the wood to protect it and make it water repellent. The beeswax is sourced from the pristine environment of New Zealand and the other oils in the blend are safe for food contact items. CARE INSTRUCTIONS - 1. Clean after each use with a damp soapy cloth and then dry it 2. Apply Tree & Co Wood Food (recommended) or other wax based polish regularly 3. Never leave wet or on a wet surface
